The Breed
To those of you who are not dog lovers you may want to avoid this post. If you are not a Dacshund lover you definately want to avoid this post.
My Dad got his first Dachshund as a teenager, Bismark. Later on when my brother and I came along it was Dacshunds for us as well. I have been so blessed and fortunate to have had Sam, Snitzel, Scooter, Droopy, and Clyde in my life. They were all wonderful and brilliant dogs. Now I am owned by the famous Albert. To those of you who have never had a doxie in your life here's a little bit of information about the breed:
- They have a very distinct look they can give you...talk about some eyes...whoa!
- Typically, you won't find a doxie that retrieves. Well, they may retrieve something but they certaintly are not going to bring it back to unless it fits within their agenda.
- They love to dig holes in the yard and burrow in the blankets and clothes.
- When sleeping, they have a certain way...they look like a big doughnut or bagel.
- They can be difficult to house break...it's an agenda thing. They do not mean to disobediant. Sometimes they just don't see the point in going outside.
- Doxies also have an independent nature which makes for good hunting dogs
- They have ferocious barks, a bark that doesn't sound like it comes from a little weiner dog...more like a Great Dane.
- Though they can be independent they always want to be with their human. I can't even go to the bathroom without my little looooooong shadow.
- They tend to be one-person dogs but that doesn't mean they don't like other people. They just know who their person is.
- Doxies are very brave and can make good watch dogs.
- They tend to be excellent with children although like any breed some are not. I personally have never been in contact with any that have not been. But I know there are some out there.
I am biased about the breed, I know. But once you have been owned by a Dachshund the chances are you will not have another breed. I for one will always have a doxie in my life. These are the Doxies in my life.
This is my Albert.
This is Oscar. I have deemed myself his Godmother. He owns Holly Terra. Holly and I met because of this cute little thing. Isn't Oscar just the cutest? I love this dog even though I have never met him. Crap, I could just eat him up.
And last but not least....Abbie. Little Miss Abbie owns Linda Rodgers. Abbie just happens to be Albert's online love. Isn't she beautiful? I love me some long Dachshund.
Oscar and Abbie are my online babies. I love them as if they were my own.
Now I will leave you all with a little poem.
God’s Dachshund
He took the softness of a spring breeze for his gentleness, the smoothness of fresh summer grass for his coat, the deep mystery of the universe for his eyes, the fury of a wild storm for his energy, the freshness of a babbling brook for his temperament, the courage of a lion for his heart, He took the never-ending love of Christ for his devotion, and when His work was done God said, "this Most Beloved of Creatures I give unto thee." Abbie retrieves on command. Then she brings it back and won't let go. She also loves children although small children who carry her around by her neck are not her favs but she will still tolerate them and bless them with her tongue. It is an absolute true fact, once you are owned by a Dachshund, there is no going back. Thanks for this. I love it.

Ha! So TRUE! I JUST got back from washing my hands where I almost tripped over Oscar under my feet in the bathroom. And I always call him my hairy little bagel 'cuz that is exactly how he sleeps.
TOO funny.
Thanks for being such a wonderful Godmother.
We love you tons!
H and Oscar :)
